Sealants

When it comes to durability, these are the most important elements of the insulating glass unit. The traditional and most frequently used system is the so called double insulation system which theoretically offers a lifetime guarantee against glass pane separation.

Insulating glass

The choice of second sealant is a compromise between quality and price:

• polyurethane (eco pur).
  A relatively cheap sealant which is characterized by a low water penetration factor at a medium infiltration value for gasses. It requires good quality equipment for application and constant operation monitoring.

• thiokol sealant
  A sealant from a higher price range with a very low gas penetration value and an average water penetration. It is a very user-friendly product which allows high dosage tolerance and remains indifferent to the surrounding humidity during application.

• hotmelt
  A typical thermoplastic applied at high temperature, used in the so-called rush jobs. Very low water penetration factor does not compensate for its low mechanical and thermal resistance.

• hotmelt - eco melt
  eco melt - hotmelt secondary sealant for insulating glass.

• the primal sealant: butyl (polyisobuthylene)
  It has been the only alternative so far. It is characterized by a very low water and neutral gas penetration factor.
